What is Child Advocacy?
Child advocacy refers to a group of professionals who speak out regarding the best interests of children. A child advocacy center seeks to protect the rights of children while determining if a crime has occurred. This is conducted in such a way as to reduce the secondary trauma typically associated with this process.
A child advocacy center is made up of law enforcement, child protective services, legal professionals, medical and mental health professionals, and child and family advocates. This multi-disciplinary team works together as one unit to investigate these crimes and prosecute the individuals responsible. Services provided by The CRICKET Center are always free to the victim and non-offending family members.
